The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is tentatively scheduled to film in Rochester the first two weeks of May, according to several sources in city and county government.
The production would use Main Street as a backdrop, including the County Office Building. It's not clear when the street would be shut down during the two weeks of filming.
Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority, which uses Main St. as a de facto transfer station, tells 13WHAM it would be affected by the production. The agency would not confirm the dates or location of the shoot.
On Wednesday, Mayor Tom Richards said that streets will have to be closed at certain times and traffic would also have to be rerouted. The city plans on publicizing the closures and changes well in advance of the filming.
"I think we need to approach it not as a inconvenience," Richards said. "This isn't going to happen everyday. It's going to be a fun thing and I think everyone will enjoy it."
Richards also said that the production company would be reaching out to the businesses that would be affected by the filming.
"One of the things that [the production company] recognizes is that they will disrupt [business]," he said. "So they are going to deal directly with them especially, the small retail establishments that are there. They are taking responsibility for whatever the consequences are going to be."
The movie is being shot entirely in New York State and the film is set in New York City. It plans to come to Rochester to film car chase scenes. The crew of a couple hundred people would book about 3,000 hotel room nights.
