Nice Guy Finished Last; Why The Buffalo Bills Had To Release Ryan Fitzpatrick

In the New "NFL Quarterback Arms Race" where did the Buffalo Bills Rank with Ryan Fitzpatrick before the team cut him on March 12th? Top 15? or Top 20? If the answer is, none of the above? Then Buffalo made the right move. The Bills finished 12-20 over the last 2 years with Fitzpatrick at quarterback.

So the reason for the move is simple. The days of the Game Managing QB’s are over. The Top quarterbacks in the game make the guys around them better and/or win, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Manning, Manning, Ryan, Roethlisberger, and Flacco. Fitzpatrick is not even on the second tier, Romo, Smith, and Rivers. Plus, the last 2 years, you have seen rookie quarterbacks come into the league and perform at a high level, Newton, Kaepernick, Dalton, 2 years ago, last year Luck, Griffin, Wilson. All better than Fitzpatrick.

What’s hard about this, is that Fitzpatrick gave everything he had. You could see it in practice and on the field. He wanted to win, I wanted him to win too, and I’m not even a Bills Fan. Backup QB gets a chance to start and finds a home in Buffalo. I’m not sure about you, but I love the “Guy From Out Of Nowhere” stories or, “Good Things Can Happen To Good People” stories, and the “Hard Work Pays Off” stories. You know all the thing you would heard from the great people that have come in and out of your life. So why didn't work?

Number One - In the NFL you have to win games, championships. It’s the cures all. Number Two - Your player personnel has to match the starting QB’s skill set, Draft Picks and Free Agency players, This is NOT on Fitzpatrick! It’s on Bills Management. Number Three your fan base has to believe that the team is getting “IT” together. one maybe two years away, or one player away from going a magically run. If your team is in the middle (where Buffalo Bills currently are) you’re giving the fans false hope.

I wish the best for Ryan Fitzpatrick and his family. He seems like a great guy and we all know we need great guys in sports. That being said he didn't win, and the Bills need a winner, a new leader. Maybe they saw one in the draft, maybe it's available in a trade, but the Bills made a statement by releasing their starting quarterback. It's time to start all over on offense.
