We already know that the long-awaited sequel to the '90s romantic comedy The Best Man is in the works. But cast members have kept their lips sealed about the film's sequel, The Best Man Holiday. ESSENCE.com caught up with Taye Diggs to find out what fans can look forward to.
"We haven't started yet," Diggs reveals about the film's shooting schedule. "We start next month. I've been texting and emailing people. Everyone's really excited. The script's done and it's good!"
Diggs will reprise his role as romantic novelist Harper Stewart, but was reluctant to give details about where his character stands 14 years after that infamous beatdown and the sweet proposal to Robin, played by actress Sanaa Lathan. "I will say this," said Diggs. "My character is humbled in this one. But I'm still together with Robin."
In the original film, a wedding brought the old college buddies together, but this time around, there's another big event taking place. Diggs says it may not be what fans are expecting. "I can't even begin to say," said Diggs, with a cautious smile. "I'll say that there's another big event. In the first one, there was a wedding and [now] there's another big event that brings us all together."
With taping set to begin in just a few short weeks, Diggs remembers the good times he shared on set with Lathan, Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau and the rest of the crew. "I had a really great time on that film," said Diggs. "The people were great. A lot of us were at the beginning of our careers. We felt like we were a part of something really special at that time."
