College Students Rally For Racial Equality
by News

A group of University of Rochester students joined students across the country in ceremonies to mark one year since the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Students for a Democratic Society shared their experiences with race relations, and talked about ways to address issues of race.

"We're here in an effort to reinvigorate race discussions on our campus," said Alykhan Alani. "We're doing this in solidarity to fight racial and structural inequality here in this country."

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed to death a year ago in Florida. Former neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman is charged in his murder.

Martin's family said the unarmed teen was racially profiled. Zimmerman said he is innocent under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.
