Weekly Sports Update

We're in the middle of January which means a lot is going on in the sports world. The NFL playoffs are heading towards their Conference Championship week, the NBA is almost at its All-Star break and well, this year; the NHL season is just beginning now. Here's a weekly checkup of what's happening in the sports world.

Lance Armstrong admitted doping this week on Oprah Winfrey's show after years of completely denying it. Why admit now? Hes already been striped of his 7 Tour De France tittles and he can no longer face perjury charges.

The NHL lockout is over. The players have reported to training camp and the ice is getting warmed up. Time for hockey finally. To be honest, Im only excited for the fighting.

Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers is a star. After single handily running and throwing through the Green Bay Packers defense, the second year player is in the NFC Championship after holding the clipboard all last season and the start of this season.

The Atlanta Falcons finally won a playoff game. Their starting quarterback Matt Ryan had a previous record of 0-3 in the playoffs but now that is all behind him. Ryan and the Falcons welcome Kaepernick and the 49ers to Atlanta this weekend for the NFC Championship.

Ray Lewis is two wins away from retiring with another Super Bowl under his belt. After defeating the Broncos in a wild game, the Ravens are heading to New England to play Tom Brady and the almighty Patriots in a rematch of last years AFC Championship game.

The NBA All-Star ballots are open and rumor is Jeremy Lin of the Houston Rockets will pull the upset and become the starting point guard of the Western Conference team. Thats how powerful, having a country behind you can be.

The MLB Hall of Fame voting just passed and the hall did not welcome a single player. This year was known as the year of the steroid users because players such as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa were eligible for the first time. How long will it be before they can get in? Will they get in? We have fourteen more years of voting to see if they let them in.

Sad news for the sports world. ESPN analyst Stuart Scott announced that he has cancer once again. Our prayers and thoughts with Stuart as he faces this tough task in his life and hope to see him hosting Sportscenter in the near future.

Oregon head coach Chip Kelly announced he is leaving the school and becoming the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

After Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett's confrontation, Knicks owner ordered for microphones to be placed at the end of each court at Madison Square Garden to record all conversations by players for future incidents.

Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy headlined a Nike commercial together but did not film it with both guys present.
