Members Vybz Kartel's camp have called for the artiste to be crowned the new King of Dancehall, based on his continued presence in the dancehall arena despite incarceration.
Vybz Kartel had relative success in 2012 due to his pool of pre-recorded material. Adding to that, the artiste also received his first nod from the internationally acclaimed Grammy organization after his album Pon Di Gaza Mi Sey was nominated for the provisional list for this year's Grammy award in the category of Best Reggae Album.
Calvin "Moonie" Haye, who was Kartel's last Road Manager, says the demand for his music is testimony that he rules dancehall. He also believes Vybz kartel should be crowned the King of Dancehall because Jamaican parties play more than 70% of Kartel's songs during each session.
Billboard chart topping producer Elvis Redwood claims that Vybz Kartel is scarcely versatile, and covers a huge fanbase because of his wide appeal. The producer also wants a speedy trial and positive results for the incarcerated self proclaimed World Boss.
Female deejay of the year Gaza Slim also shared a similar view. She believes Vybz Kartel is already the King, also alleging that many artistes have lost creativity since Vybz Kartel's incarceration.
The current King of Dancehall is legendary deejay King Yellowman. Also stating claiming to be the crown is Beenie Man who has been in the music industry since the early 90s.
