Philip Seymour Hoffman Nominated For Another Oscar

Fairport native and Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman has been nominated for another Oscar, this time for Best Supporting Actor as the enigmatic and charismatic religious leader in "The Master." The 85th annual Academy Award nominations were announced Thursday morning in Los Angeles.

Hoffman previously won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of author Truman Capote in 2005's "Capote." He's previously been nominated in the Supporting Actor category for "Charlie Wilson's War" and "Doubt."

Hoffman's competition this year are: Alan Arkin, "Argo"; Robert De Niro, "Silver Linings Playbook"; Tommy Lee Jones, "Lincoln"; and Christoph Waltz, "Django Unchained."

The Civil War saga "Lincoln" leads the Academy Awards with 12 nominations, including Best Picture and director for Steven Spielberg.

The nominees for Best Picture are "Amour:; "Argo"; "Beasts of the Southern Wild"; "Django Unchained"; "Les Miserables"; "Life of Pi"; "Lincoln"; "Silver Linings Playbook"; "Zero Dark Thirty."

The nominees for Best Actor are Bradley Cooper, "Silver Linings Playbook"; Daniel Day Lewis, "Lincoln"; Hugh Jackman, "Les Miserables"; Joaquin Phoenix, "The Master"; Denzel Washington, "Flight."

The nominees for Best Actress are Jessica Chastain, "Zero Dark Thirty"; Jennifer Lawrence, "Silver Linings Playbook"; Emmanuelle Riva, "Amour"; Quvenzhane Wallis, "Beasts of the Southern Wild"; Naomi Watts, "The Impossible."

The Oscars will be presented Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Seth MacFarlane and airing live on ABC.
