ESPN apologizes for Brent Musburger's comments on Katherine Webb

ESPN apologized for Brent Musburger's commentary on Katherine Webb, Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron's girlfriend and 2012 Miss Alabama.

"We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test," ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys tweeted. "However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that."

With about four minutes left in the first quarter of a game that already felt like a lopsided affair, Musburger began to talk about the women in McCarron's life, but mostly just focused on the beauty of his girlfriend.

"You quarterbacks," the 73-year-old Musburger says. "You get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman."

At one point, Musburger can't contain his excitement and interrupts his partner Kirk Herbstreit's analysis of Webb's beauty to let out a boisterous, "Whoa!"

As these things usually go, Webb is now an Internet sensation.

Arizona Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett tweeted his phone number to her in hopes of sweeping her off of her feet with an invitation to join him at Wingstop and the King of Diamonds strip club; she's climbing close to 200,000 followers on Twitter at the time of this post, compared with the 562 that she had on Christmas; and Donald Trump tweeted that Webb will be asked to be a Miss USA judge.
