The Rock is Back

Finally, The Rock has come back . . . to actually be an active WWE superstar. For years now, we've seen Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson make return after return on WWE programming, usually before the release of a big time movie. Well, that hasn't changed, of course Johnson has promotion on his mind as his next upcoming film, 'G.I. Joe 2' is scheduled to be released in March 2013; ironically around a couple of weeks before Wrestlemania 29.

The difference between this return and the other hundreds of returns that The Rock has made since his unofficial retirement from wresting to pursue his acting career, is that he will make appearances at more shows than he will miss in the next three months. He made a return last night on Monday Night Raw and confronted WWE Champion CM Punk. The Rock announced on the 1000th episode edition of Monday Night Raw that he will be competing for the WWE Championship at this years pay-per-view edition of the Royal Rumble which is on January 27th. CM Punk is the current champion and has been for over 400 days, but The Rock is making his much anticipated return to try to end that streak. CM Punk is known as the best talker and entertainer on the microphone on the company roster right now and we all know The Rock is known as 'The Most Electrifying Man in all of Sports Entertainment,' so a promo showdown between these two was must see TV.

The confrontation between the two started with a verbal assault on both ends that resulted in a 'Rock Bottom' leaving WWE Champion stunned and The Rock carrying the WWE Championship over his head. Will WWE give The Rock another title reign? I don't see how they can avoid that with the ratings he brings and being known as the greatest WWE superstar of all-time. In my opinion, he will win the title and have a title reign that starts at the Royal Rumble and survives all the way until Wrestlemania 29. It's a win on both ends, WWE gets high ratings and merchandise buys and The Rock promotes his upcoming film "G.I. Joe 2" which premieres right before Wrestlemania. I believe he will face the star of the company for their second encounter, John Cena. At last years Wrestlemania, Cena and Rock faced off in The Rock's first match in over eight years and it resulted in a Rock victory over Cena. Somehow, I see all this coming back into play as Rock will win the title and lose it to the current face of the company, John Cena in his way of revenge for his loss last year to 'The Great One.'
