Dwayne Wade Donates $210K To Hurricane Relief Efforts

Dwayne Wade is one of several celebs who has come forward to assist families who suffered devastating loses during Hurricane Sandy. The Miami Heat baller donated $210,000, which is his entire salary from Friday's match against the New York Knicks, to hurricane relief efforts.

"I know a lot of people here," Wade said about New York City to USA Today. "Knowing the things they have been through, it's just mind-boggling. Miami is a place that is affected by hurricanes all the time so I know how the community can be impacted."

Wade's charitable donation came shortly after he caught some serious backlash for posting what some considered an insensitive remark on his Twitter page in the hurricane's aftermath.

On the Friday following the storm, Wade's team flew into New Jersey's Newark Airport for their game against the Knicks. According to Wade's tweet, it took the team three hours to make what should have been a 30 minute drive from Newark to Manhattan due to severe traffic backups post-Sandy.

"3 hour traffic just to get into the NY city...#C'monMan," Wade tweeted, which was not received well by some of his 3.7 million Twitter followers.

After catching flack for his remark, Wade deleted the comment and replied, "2 be clear "Traffic tweet was meant 2 say"... We shouldn't B here 2 play a basketball game when theirs so many families obviously still R affected by #Sandy."
