The Rochester Police Department announced a unique collaboration with inmates from the Orleans Correctional Facility (Civic Duty Initiative Team), the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, and The Rochester Police Foundation in an initiative to reduce the availability of guns on our city streets.
Members of the Orleans Correctional Facility's "Civic Duty Initiative Team" raised over $1,000, which was matched by Rev Ira White of Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, as well as the Rochester Police Foundation for a gun Buy Back program. The gun Buy Back will be held at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, located at 614 Clifford Ave, on Saturday, September 22nd, from 1pm to 5pm.
This initiative is significant and unique because the inmates of the Orleans Correctional Facility wanted to make a difference for the sole purpose of saving lives within the City of Rochester. From inside the prison, to the young men and women on the streets of Rochester, they wanted to convey the message that, "Violence is not the answer".
