Primary Results In New York
by News

Rochester, N.Y. -- Voters went to the polls Thursday to choose their parties' candidates in four key races in the Rochester area.

Democrat David Gantt won his first primary challenge in two decades in the 137th Assembly District. Gantt took 69 percent of the vote, while Jose Cruz earned 20 percent and John Lightfoot had support from 11 percent of voters.

The closest race of the evening came in the Republican primary for Livingston County District Attorney. Unofficial results showed Steven Sessler with 1,792 votes, to 1,773 votes for Eric Schiener, a margin of just 19 votes.

Republican Bill Nojay defeated Richard Burke in the 133rd District Assembly race. Nojay earned 58 percent of the vote.

In the 62nd State Senate district, incumbent Republican George Maziarz held a steady lead of 66 percent of the vote, compared to 34 percent for Johnny Destino. The total reflects results from portions of that district in Monroe and Niagara Counties. Election results had not been released from the remaining portion of the district in Orleans County as of 11 p.m. Thursday night.

These results are unofficial at this point from local Boards of Elections.
