Please come out to School No. 15 tomorrow and help us highlight this exciting and educational summer program on STARTALKs closing day.
The closing event for the STARTALK Summer Program will take place at Childrens School of Rochester (School No. 15, 494 Averill Ave) tomorrow, August 6th, from 11 a.m. until noon.
Through the program, which began in mid-July, about 35 4th to 6th grade RCSD students have been learning to speak Mandarin Chinese and Swahili during their summer vacation.
During the closing event, the students will sing songs and role-play in their newly-learned languages, student work and artwork that has been completed throughout the program (which has included cultural dancers and musicians, mud house building, cooking demos, etc.) as well as photos chronicling their experiences will be on display, and the students will share their impressions of the program with those in attendance.
STARTALK is a program funded by the National Security Agency through the National Center for Foreign Languages at the University of Maryland. STARTALK allows students, who ordinarily would not have the opportunity, to learn a critical language ( Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic, Swahili, and others) during the regular school year.
