Lionel Richie is the United Negro College Fund's Award of Excellence honoree this year during the annual An Evening of Starts.
Richie, who attuned Tuskegee University, will be celebrated with performances by Akon, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Katharine McPhee, Jesse McCartney, Chrisette Michele, Ledisi, Brian McKnight, James Ingram, Johnny Gill and Boney James with appearances by Will.i.am, Ne-Yo, Nicole Richie, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, Berry Gordy, Terrence Howard, Regina King, Shemar Moore, Shaun Robinson, Romeo and Cedric the Entertainer.
Lionel Richie will be the sixth recipient of the UNCF "Award of Excellence," in acknowledgment of his long term support of minority education. Previous winners include Pattie LaBelle (2009), Smokey Robinson (2008), Aretha Franklin (2007), Stevie Wonder (2006), Quincy Jones (2005) and Lou Rawls (2004).
