Mary J Pens Song For The Movie Precious
by Dean

Mary J Blige has written a song 'I Can See in Color' for the film 'Precious' and talked to the NY Post's Cindy Adams about it:

"Precious," from the novel "Push," is about an illiterate African-American teen in Harlem who is having a second baby and whose path in life is saved by a caring teacher. Names involved in it run from Oprah to Tyler Perry, Mo'Nique and Lenny Kravitz. A Lionsgate film, it bowed at Sundance and opens next month.

"I got involved because when I heard about this story I became very emotional. See, I know those real people. I lived that same life. It's a big piece of where I could have been and gone. I relate because of the foods she cooked, the mother abusing the child . . . saying she's dumb . . . I've seen that with my own mom.

"It's as easy as 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 to fall down when you're a child growing up in adversity. Molested. Born into a negative situation. Not loving yourself. My song 'I Can See in Color' is because when I was depressed and thought I'm going crazy back in those bad days, I couldn't see color. Couldn't see anything rosy. Then . . . now . . . things turned colorful for me.

"Took me no time to write. First I was only freestyling . . . just a couple of lines . . . and then it all came. My whole life came about."
