The Dean's List - Maxwell - A Review
by Dean

Oh what a night!

Last night was such a wonderful evening, The Dean's List will have to share all the details with you in two parts.

The Review

Opening the show was the incomparable Chrisette Michele. I must admit, I've been a little slow recognizing her talent - until last night that is. I think I have a tendency to ignore some of the new R & B singers that come along because quite frankly, most of them are really bad. Chrisette was amazing!

She opened with her current single, "Epiphany" and closed with her first release, "If I had My Way" where she paid tribute to some of her favorite artists. John Legend, Erykah Badu and Anita Baker would have been proud! Chrisette even did a mini tribute to Michael Jackson and performed "Heal The World".

Chrisette Michele delivered a solid performance. I would definitely see her again.

After a 50 minute set change - it was time for the man of the hour - Maxwell!

After the lights dimmed (the main curtain was closed), the band began to play. Once the curtains opened, it revealed a simple, but absolutely beautiful set. Just as we were about to bust open with anticipation, Maxwell appeared at the top of the staircase.

Dressed in in a black suit (looking very delicious I might add) he received a thunderous ovation from the crowd. Once his feet hit the stage, it was non-stop from there. Maxwell may have lost his trademark hairstyle, but he hasn't lost a beat!

He took us through his extensive music catalog with sprinkles of songs from his new CD.

"I've never been to Buffalo before and not I can't understand why - this crowd is the best", the Brooklyn native said.

The highlight of his performance was when he sang "This Woman's Work". When the first note played from this Maxwell favorite, the audience exploded, stood to their feet and some even cried. The purity of his voice is remarkable.

Before Maxwell performed his signature, sensual anthem "Till The Cops Come Knocking", he asked all the ladies in the house if they would indulge him by throwing their panties on the stage. One woman honored his request!

The concert was fantastic! I wrote a blog last week about my first time seeing Maxwell in concert -

Of course, I couldn't wait to go to the show to see this phenom again. Though the show was wonderful, my personal preference would to have seen him like the first time. At times, the band (who were wonderful) had the tendency to drown out his melodic vocals. It's gotten at tad too big for my taste.

One surprise of the evening was when Maxwell was introducing his band. His keyboard player, Robert Glasper is from Rochester! The boy was bad too!

We tried to get pictures of the concert, but this show had the strictest rules on cameras and recording devices!

This was truly an evening for the "Grown and Sexy". Maxwell is one of the premier R & B artists of our times.

Maxwell has made The Dean's List!

Tomorrow, we will take a ride on the "Sabrina Cruiser" and talk about the behind the scenes fun we had last night. It was memorable!
