A legal fight over the estate of Steve McNair may be in the works, according to TMZ.com, as the former NFL quarterback did not leave a will.
His widow, Mechelle, was named administrator of his estate; and she's named her two sons, Tyler and Trenton, as heirs. But McNair has two older sons from a prior relationship -- Steven McNair Jr. and Steven O'Brian Koran McNair - who were not listed by Mechelle as heirs.
Under Tennessee law, Mechelle gets 1/3 of the estate and the remaining 2/3 is split evenly among the heirs.
According to TMZ, there are reports that Mechelle is not convinced McNair fathered the two older kids, even though one of them was getting $500 a month in child support from the athlete.
Meanwhile, Allhiphop.com is reporting that a rap song by Keith Norfleet, the ex-boyfriend of the woman who shot and killed McNair before killing herself, has been linked to McNair's death.
Norfleet, who wrote the song "Closed Casket," was questioned by police over the lyrics in the song, but was eventually allowed to leave with no charges filed. His track was posted on Soundclick, a popular Web site used by up and coming musicians to share their music.
Among the lyrics: "If you ever do it again (expletive) I'm not rapping/I'm getting a clip and clapping and I'm not laughing/ They're wrapping you up for your little trip to the morgue/While I'm preparing for my trip to the shore/Don't ignore me, I'm not lying, I couldn't be more honest/If you ever do it again, you'll die, I promise."
Norfleet uploaded the track to Soundclick in February, just one month after McNair and Sahel Kazemi started dating. Norfleet's sister Crystal told The Tennessean that the track was not about McNair, or Kazemi. It was about her husband, who had cheated on her with a younger woman.
"He puts his emotions on pen and paper, and that's where they stay. He never wrote that with Steve and Jenny (Sahel Kazemi) in mind," Crystal told the paper.
As previously reported, the man who allegedly sold the gun to Kazemi has been arrested by ATF agents in Nashville, Tennessee. Adrian J. Gilliam Jr., 33, of La Vergne, Tenn., was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He admitted selling a 9 mm Bryco/Jennings to Sahel Kazemi for $100, according to court documents.
Kazemi bought the gun on July 2, just two days before she shot McNair to death at his condo before killing herself. Authorities say she met Gilliam while she was trying to sell her car and told him she was looking to buy a gun.
A criminal complaint says Gilliam - who was convicted in 1993 in Florida for murder and attempted armed robbery - told police he sold the gun to Kazemi, whom he identified from a police photo.
