Beautiful Letter From A Listener
by Dean

Over the last week, WDKX.com has been inundated with letters from listeners conveying their thoughts about the death of Michael Jackson.

Here is one that we wanted to share with all of you:

Hi,

My sister and I were driving in the country (down in Batavia) on Saturday listening to WDKX's weekend tribute to the Late Mr. Michael Jackson. We both smiled and remembered growing in NYC in Harlem, going to high school, and rushing to the record store on the corner that blasted black music non-stop from sun up to sun down, purchasing "ABC", then taking it home and literally playing the vinyl off that record. That was the first time we had heard of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. They were our teen idols back then. So on Saturday when WDKX was playing all of his songs we marvelled at how wonderful they actually were and how we took them and him for granted for so long. That, was the first thing that took our breath away.

The second thing was a voice of a young 13 year-old female caller who stated "people said he was not happy, so God took him". We both looked at each other and said "Wow, that was deep!". We suddenly realized that at 53 and 54 years old respectively, we had both been listening to Michael Jackson for at least 30 years and we (and many other musicians) were heavily influenced by both Michael Jackson's music and the phenomenon of his persona. And now, globally, young musicians are getting a true comprehension of the genius of Michael Jackson. No matter what his life may have been, he gave us some of the most beautiful, melodic, contemporary, music that we and many generations will be influenced by forever. So, we can be happy because his legacy will never die as it live on forever though his music and the videos that allowed us into his mindspace to see what he saw when he felt music. That was the second thing.

The third and final thing was just the realization that he is gone and no more genius will spring from that fountain. Gerald McBride played an a capella version of of "I'll Be There" and it was absolutely eerie and astounding to hear all at once. How the Jackson Brother's voice sounded as they weaved in an out of the background vocals as Michael and Jermaine sang the main lyrics to that song? How beautiful and peaceful it sounded as we drove down the road on Saturday afternoon. And as we pulled into Batavia we saw written on the back windows of cars RIP - Michael Jackson - 1958 - 2009

Yes, Rest in Peace, Mr. Michael Jackson, and thank you so much for being a part of our world!

And, thank you WDKX for giving us the gift of listening to Mr. Michael Jackson this weekend. I stopped listening at 5:00 am Monday morning when the final song played. Please do it again soon as you have never let us down and have always played Michael Jackson's music throughout the years.

We love him and we will miss him.

Love, Peace, and Happiness,

EdieB
