Soul crooner Eric Benet hosts the new season of the BET J show 'Lyric Cafe.'
Taped last week in Washington, DC, the popular series showcases a combination of modern soul and jazz singers with spoken word artists.
"It was dope being able to host Lyric Cafe," the singer told me. "The show is all about celebrating creativity in lyrics and R&B. I got a chance to perform as an artist in addition to hosting, as well as present some dope spoken word artists."
Among the music artists that are featured on the forthcoming season of 'Lyric Cafe' include Rahsaan Patterson, Lalah Hathaway, Ginuwine, Leela James and Maysa, among others.
"There's a lot of push for pop-flavored R&B. But those who perform real soulful R&B, there aren't a lot of venues out there for us. This is a much needed vehicle," Benet expressed.
No stranger to television, the Milwaukee-native last starred on the MTV drama 'Kaya.'
Benet, who will be among the headliners at the upcoming Essence Music Festival alongside Beyonce, Maxwell, Anita Baker and Ne-Yo, is still riding off the success of his latest release, 'Love & Life.'
The latest single from the CD, 'Chocolate Legs,' is a hit at urban radio.
