Former char-topping hip-hop soul singer Ashanti is readying a theater career with her forthcoming role as Dorothy in a Broadway-bound revival of 'The Wiz.'

For years, the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter has endured much scrutiny about whether she had the pipes. During a preview performance of 'The Wiz' last week, the Glen Clove, N.Y., native showed and proved that she just may be built to last in the business.
