A-Rod Projected To Miss 10 Weeks

Alex Rodriguez will have surgery to remove a cyst from his right hip and will be sidelined until mid-May, the brother of the New York Yankees third baseman told ESPNdeportes.com.

The operation, scheduled for Monday, has a projected 10-week recovery time and will cause A-Rod to miss the World Baseball Classic, according to the brother, Joe Dunand. Rodriguez had been scheduled to play for the Dominican Republic.

The injury is the latest setback for baseball's highest-paid player, who last month admitted using banned drugs while playing for Texas from 2001-03. And it leaves a huge hole in the batting order of the New York Yankees, trying to rebound following the end of their streak of 13 consecutive playoff appearances.
