Wilberforce University is a unique institution located in a state (Ohio) rich in America's private college tradition. Founded prior to the end of slavery in 1856, it is the nation's oldest, private African-American university. For 152 years WU has, through sheer force of will, provided young African-American students with a solid educational experience. Wilberforce University was developed by collaboration between the Methodist Episcopal Church and the African Methodist Episcopal Church, whose members worked to promote classical education and teacher training for black youth.
The admissions office of Wilberforce University will be in Rochester to recruit prospective students. High School Juniors, Seniors, and their parents are encouraged to attend. Wilberforce University is looking for students who can contribute to their academic environment. There are various scholarship opportunities available for students based on academic and athletic performance.
Here is a list of the Scholarship Information:
Presidential Merit Scholarship - Full Tuition renewable annually GPA 3.75
Presidential Excellence Scholarship - Half Tuition renewable annually GPA 3.5
WU Academic Scholarship - Amount $2,500 GPA 3.25
Communication Excellence Scholarship - Amount $2500 - GPA 2.5
WU Faith Based Scholarship - Amount $500-$2000 - GPA 2.5
