Phoenix Suns guard Jason Richardson has been arrested on charges of reckless driving, extreme speeding and endangerment after being clocked at 55 miles per hour over the speed limit.
The 27-year-old was taken into custody after being scanned traveling 90 mph in a 35-mph zone with his three-year-old son in the back seat without a restraining child safety seat, a legal requirement in Arizona.
Police said Richardson admitted speeding and police saw the child in the car without proper restraint, prompting them to book the eight-year National Basketball Association veteran, who was released several hours later.
The Suns, who fired coach Terry Porter on Monday and named assistant Alvin Gentry to replace him, said in a statement Monday that Richardson will not play Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers for conduct detrimental to the team.
Richardson was obtained by the Suns two months ago in a trade that sent Raja Bell and Frenchman Boris Diaw to the Charlotte Bobcats.
Richardson was accused of driving under the influence on December 21, less than two weeks after joining the Suns.
