From the ROC to BARACK -- Liz's Travel (b)Log, Day 3
by Liz

January 17th, Day 3

Good news! Finally we scored some gala tickets. Can I just tell you: trying to get tickets to inaugural events right now WITHOUT THE HOOKUP and even WITH A HOOKUP is bananas! Anyway, a friend of my boyfriend's came through and we are good now for tonight. We are headed to the International Inaugural Ball at L'Enfant Plaza Hotel right downtown. "Kindred: The Family Soul" is performing and there are going to be whole bunch of different rooms: a Motown Ballroom, Carifiesta Ballroom, Makeba Ballroom for Afrobeat, and a Hidden Beach Lounge featuring music from Hidden Beach recording artists like Jill Scott (who you know I love).

As for last night... We went out to this spot Ozio's, which was pretty cool. Nice crowd; a lot of out-of-towners. The table next to us was from someplace -- I think South Carolina, but don't quote me. Anyway, they were FEELIN' D.C. and of couse in SUPER good spirits about Obama being the next President of the United States. They ordered a couple rounds of Patron shots and then got some for our table too, chanting "O-BAM-A! O-BAM-A!" after they took a swig. It was pretty much comedy.

It's nice seeing so many people from so many different places making the trip in from their respective homes to call D.C. home for the weekend, some for the week. I have yet to see someone in a foul mood. No one is even complaining about the traffic, which, by all accounts, really isn't that bad -- yet.

Anyway, I am about to get ready for the tonight's Gala. We are meeting with friends before we go since we only came up on two tickets. I'll be sure to blog tomorrow and let you know how the night went. So excited for the gala! You know me: I can be a complete GIRLY GIRL when it comes to these things. So excited to put on a fancy gown, take extra time with the makeup, and put on my knock-out stilettos! OOOOOWEEE!!!! I am going to have to put on Stevie's "Superstition" and get to movin'. That's my anthem when I am really feelin' myself and headed out for a night on the town. Didn't know that about me, huh? LOL! LOL!

Miss you guys!
