In the same New Orleans neighborhood where he grew up, hip-hop artist Lil' Wayne celebrated the reopening of a basketball court that his foundation helped to rebuild.
Lil' Wayne, along with the New Orleans Recreation Department, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Harrell Park Basketball Court in the Hollygrove neighborhood.
The rapper's One Family Foundation also presented a $200,000 check to the city to put towards the restoration of the park's multi-purpose center.
"The word for today and the word forever is kids," Lil' Wayne said. "That's what it's for. It's for the kids. I played for this park, and I'm gonna do whatever it takes to make sure ya'll play for this park."
NORD officials said the court, park and stadium sustained about $3 million in damage during Hurricane Katrina. Lil' Wayne scored eight Grammy nominations this year -- the most of any artist.
His new album sold 2.8 million copies -- the top seller for 2008 in the United States.
