Angela Bassett stars as Voletta Wallace in the upcoming film Notorious.
The actress was hand-picked by Mrs. Wallace to star as herself in the project, and the two became fast friends during the filming process.
Bassett says the biggest challenge in taking on the role was nailing the accent. Bassett also says having Wallace watch her every day made her a little nervous, but she was also reassured.
She reveals that any questions she had she was able to go straight to Mrs. Wallace and get a straight answer. Angela Bassett also says playing Wallace was the major reason she took on the role. She says of the late rapper's mother "she is just fascinating to me. Her strength, her vulnerability, her ability to still laugh every day. To be supportive, to be on the set. I have seen a great deal of life worth living despite a major tragedy."
