Top African American Films Announced

Cadillac Records," "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Secret Life of Bees" received year-end honors from the Foundation for the Advancement of African Americans in Film (FAAAF).

The non-profit arts organization, whose mission is to provide educational opportunities to future minority film executives, announced the movies as winners of its annual Black Reel Awards.

"Cadillac Records" - the story of legendary blues label Chess - was named Best Film, while its cast claimed the Best Ensemble prize and Jeffrey Wright picked up the Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Muddy Waters.

"Slumdog Millionaire's" Dev Patel was named Best Actor and Best Breakthrough Performance, and Queen Latifah landed the Best Actress crown for "The Secret Life of Bees."

The Black Reel Awards began in 2000 as a means to recognize achievements of blacks in feature, independent and television films. Awards range from the art of character portrayals to the artistry displayed behind the camera.
