Charges Dropped Suge Knight

A Las Vegas judge has dismissed drug and battery charges filed against Marion "Suge" Knight, who was accused of beating his girlfriend in a parking lot.

Justice of the Peace Abbi Silver dismissed the charges without prejudice, said Clark County Court spokesman Michael Sommermeyer. Court records show that the district attorney's office has filed a notice indicating it may try to revive the charges by seeking a grand jury indictment, Sommermeyer said.

Knight's attorney, David Chesnoff, told the Associated Press that the charges were dismissed because the prosecution had "discovery problems and witness problems."

The co-founder of Death Row Records had been charged with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery in the beating of Melissa Isaac in August. Police said they witnessed him striking her while holding a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip. Isaac was not stabbed, but was treated at a hospital for injuries.

A complaint filed by the district attorney's office also said Knight was carrying the drugs Ecstasy and hydrocodone when he was arrested.
