102 Yr Old Rochester Woman Votes For Obama
by Dean

10NBC - Many people never thought they would see the day where an African-American would be the Democratic candidate for president. A 102-year-old Rochester woman never thought she would live to see this day.

Lauretta Conwell has witnessed segregation and fought for basic human rights. She has voted in the last 20 presidential elections. The first time she voted was 1928. Herbert Hoover won the election that year. However, she has never been more excited to head to the polls.

"I'm very happy to be able to vote for an African-American," said Conwell. "I never, never in my wildest dreams thought this would happen."

After Conwell voted today the crowd at the polling place applauded. Conwell's daughter says it was an emotional moment. "This particular feeling will go with me to my death, it will go with me to my death," said Francine Conwell.

Lauretta Conwell says if Barack Obama wins it will give African Americans hope that they truly can be anything they want to be. No matter how young or old they are. "I feel very blessed that I've lived this long to see this day," said Conwell.
