Reality show star Reverend Run has confirmed what many folks believed about the so-called beef between 50 Cent and Kanye West last year - it was a publicity stunt designed to sell records.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, vowed to quit the music business if his album "Curtis" lost out in the charts to West's "Graduation," both released on Sept. 11, 2007.
Kanye won the sales battle, only to be hit with another challenge by 50 Cent to participate in a second sales race this year with their respective new albums. At a recent concert, 50 Cent even mocked West's current single "Love Lockdown" and G-Unit made fun of West's headline-making arrest at LAX airport for smashing a photographer's camera equipment.
But the bickering between the pair was just a ploy to sell more records, according to Rev. Run.
"They are not really fighting. They are friends," the former Run DMC star tells WENN. "That was just a publicity thing for their albums. I think they are really close and nice to each other. That was just a first week sales battle."
