Atlanta Falcons safety Lawyer Milloy was arrested for drunken driving police records showed.
According to the documents posted on the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department website on Monday, Milloy was released at 9:48am, less than 24 hours after the Falcons fell 24-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a National Football League Game.
Later Monday, Milloy issued a contrite statement.
"I apologize to my family, my teammates, (owner Arthur) Blank, Coach (Mike) Smith, (general manager) Thomas Dimitroff, and our great fans for the incident that occurred following Sunday's game at Tampa Bay," Milloy said.
Smith said he talked with Milloy on Monday.
"Any time any of our players are in this type of situation, we are extremely disappointed," Smith said. "I'm extremely disappointed and I can't stress enough; it's unacceptable."
Milloy, a 13-year NFL veteran in his third season with the Falcons, could be suspended by the league for violating its personal conduct policy.
Smith said the Falcons won't take action until the case has run its legal course.
