Health Jam 2008 - A Review
by Dean

If you missed WDKX's Health Jam 2008 - you missed the concert of the year! Over 6000 of you witnessed it on Saturday night.

The show opened with newcomer Noel Gourdin. His set included songs from his current album, "After My Time". Noel proved that he is a true vocalist.

Being only 26 years old, I was very impressed with how comfortable he was on the stage - and off. He ventured out into the crowd and serenaded the ladies of Rochester. On his last song, he took up to "The River". and the crowd erupted in applause. I see big things for this young man!

Next up, my man Anthony David. He opened with "Something About You" and the crowd sang along. He performed a few other songs from his current CD, "Acey Duecy", including "Kin Folk" (a new favorite for family reunions) and "Spittin Game". He asked the audience if they were ready for Betty Wright and they cheered, so he teased them a bit by playing the "Clean Up Woman" riff on his guitar.

He broke into his current single, "Words" to thunderous applause. "Words", a duet with India Arie isn't the only song on his album that he shares vocals on. HIs encore performance was "Lady", a song on "Acey Duecy" that he sings with Keisha Jackson (singer Millie Jackson's daughter). Anthony showed his tender side and I sure he gained many new fans Saturday night.

Tomorrow, The Dean's List goes 1 on 1 with Anthony David - an interview I will always remember.

But - the night belonged to R&B Songstress - Betty Wright. You knew she was going to bring her "A" game when she hit the stage.

First - let me say that time has been very good to Ms. Wright. She looked beautiful! She was filled with so much energy from the time she hit the stage, until she left and danced through the parking log and continued dancing once she entered her vehicle.

Ms. Wright treated the crowd to the extended versions of her greatest hits - "Tonight Is The Night", "The Clean-up Woman", "No Pain, No Gain" - and the list goes on.... Even after all these years, her voice is flawless!

This free event was a wonderful way to celebrate new and old R&B. The ages ranged from 20 - 90 and introduced to the young how it used to be, and to the old, how we do it now. One thing that remains consistent is that good music lasts forever! Thank you Noel, Anthony and Ms. Betty - your performances will be etched in our memories.....
