Amy Winehouse was taken to an emergency room at a London hospital Monday night, but the reason was not immediately clear, a spokesman for the Grammy-winning singer said.
An ambulance took Winehouse from her north London home to University College Hospital, spokesman Chris Goodman said. He said he did not know what might be wrong with the 24-year-old.
Winehouse's musical success has been overshadowed by her tumultuous private life and public struggles with drugs and alcohol. Her father has said she developed early stage emphysema from smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine.
London Ambulance Service said it was called to an address in north London at 8:40 p.m. local time.
"We sent an ambulance and a fast response car and the patient has been taken to hospital," it said in a statement without naming Winehouse.

A spokesman for troubled singer Amy Winehouse says she has been released from a London hospital after suffering a reaction to medication.
Spokesman Chris Goodman says Winehouse is feeling fine. He says she was discharged from a London hospital Tuesday after spending the night under observation.
Winehouse had been rushed by ambulance from her north London home to London's University College Hospital on Monday evening.
It was the second time in as many months that the Grammy winner had been taken to a hospital. She was hospitalized in June after collapsing at home.
