Foxy Brown Speaks

It's been a long road for Inga Marchand, better known as Foxy Brown. Serving time on Riker's Island will damage anyone's spirit, and according to Foxy, it wasn't a pleasurable episode, "It was the absolute worst sh*t I've ever experienced in my entire life" Foxy said in the 11th Anniversary September issue of XXL Magazine. And while a 12 month prison term was hovering over the Brooklyn Don Diva, Marchand was released after 8 and half months. But before her lengthy stint, adversity followed Foxy like a lost puppy dog. Brown plead guilty to assaulting several nail salon clerks in 2004, then another beauty salon incident in Florida landed Marchand back in cuffs and of course, the famous blackberry bashing incident that the NY Post ridiculed her for.

"I mean, I'm sorry, this is what I mean by God completely keeping his hand on me, because all this is happening for a reason. It felt like one disaster after another. God was sending me a sign" said Foxy of her difficult past. But of course, troubled followed her once more into prison. Though details are sketchy, Brown landed herself into solitary confinement (she would be locked down for 23 hours a day), which in fact gave her some much needed time for reflection, "Many nights I had a heavy heart, but my spirit was still strong. I asked God, 'why me?' And he answered, 'why not you'? She explained. "I was able to hear god in a way that I never heard him before, and I realized, Okay, I got it. This is divine intervention." It's a brand new day for Foxy. She has since been released from Riker's and is ready to put the past behind her. However, some things are difficult to let go.

Her once fruitful relationship with hip hop's president, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, is at an all time low as of late. Calls weren't returned and visit requests weren't submitted, but Inga is still holding on. "I would never denounce him in public. That's just how I feel. But I've been incarcerated for eight months and Jay's been everywhere and he hasn't mentioned one thing about me. That broke my heart more than anything" Foxy added.

Regardless of the multi-million dollar Def Jam deal Jay signed her to in 2005, the camaraderie just wasn't factoring as it did nine years ago when they released their timeless duet, "Ain't No N*gga". She continued "I just knew he would be there---everyone came. But he never showed up. My mother always told me, 'Inga when a person show you who they are, BELIEVE THEM. Been showing me all through the years and you just don't wanna believe it"
