Kanye West Supports The Troops

Hip-Hop superstar Kanye West and MTV have teamed up for a special "Choose or Lose" one-hour show based on Iraq veterans' personal stories set to air next week.

According to a statement from the network, the program will feature the Grammy winning rapper and MTV's Sway Calloway surprising recently returned soldiers at their homes. Upon greeting the vets, viewers will hear and see the difficulties experienced overseas and the challenge of trying to readjust after returning.

"There are hundreds of veterans out there who are falling through the cracks," West said in the statement. "They make the ultimate sacrifices for us by laying down their lives, but it seems like a lot of them just get forgotten about. I know my music inspires and helps a lot of people but you can always do more. I teamed up with MTV and took the opportunity to share the spotlight with these veterans and hear their stories."

The decision to feature West was carefully decided upon by the network's executives claiming many vets look for his music to help remind them of their homes in the US.

"In conversations with veterans over the last year, it became clear that Kanye's music is used by soldiers in Iraq as a way of connecting to home," Executive VP for MTV News & Production Dave Sirulnick said. "Once these veterans return home, their stories are so moving that you can't help but want to do the right thing and help them out."

In addition to meeting the iconic rapper and having their voices heard across the world, MTV and the Dr. Donda West Foundation reward each veteran by paying off debts, rents, and funding any school tuitions.

"Choose or Lose & Kanye West Present: Homecoming" airs Monday (July 28) at 10 PM.
