We had the entire tournament talking about our program in a matter of two days. We went 3-0 in our pool and in the final day of pool play we beat the #1 ranked team in the country the Memphis Stallions. They were the runner up last year in nationals.
During that game we had North Carolina - Pittsburgh - Kentucky - Wake Forest - and a few other colleges talking all about our players and of course the 6-6 Javon McCrea from Newark.
During our first round of playoffs- which was all the top teams of all the brackets - we lost - we were up 15 points early in the second quarter when Javon and our top Guard Devon went down with ankle sprains and could not return. With 5 players we could not hold on... we were very upset, but all the college coaches and AAU teams all over came up to me saying how much they loved our team and how hard we play!
We went to the consolation bracket and barely won our first game... and we did it with 5 players! keep in mind this is nationals, teams had to qualify through regionals etc...
Then the night game Javon through 13 hours of shock treatment (20 min ice then 20 min heat) was able to play and we knocked off another top program out of Kentucky. So we are in the semifinals of the consolation bracket. Devon is still icing for about 17 hours in 24 hours because he is determined to play tomorrow...
We are also missing mandell thomas due to a knee injury.So if we win the consolation bracket we will end up with a 10 ranking in the country...however we really think we could of won it all... memphis is in the semi finals..the team we beat.
Either way we have moved the Upstate Elite http://www.upstateelite.com program closer to its mission statement... being #1 in the country.
