Tomorrow MTV and executive producer Jamie Foxx will debut their new reality show "From G's to Gents." In this SOHH exclusive we talk to the show's host, Fonzworth Bentley, about his experience guiding the G's and working with Kanye West on his debut rap album.
"From G's to Gents" is a reality competition in which 14 guys from the streets try to become the perfect gentleman under the tutelage Bentley, the man servant known for being Diddy's eclectic, former personal assistant. The last man standing will be awarded a $100,000 cash prize.
Though one of the shows producers, Chris Abrego, has had success with shows like VH1's "Flavor of Love" and "Rock of Love," Fonzworth says "From G's To Gents" does not rely on cheap laughs. "I wanted to make sure that [it] wasn't them throwing these guys into these situations and then laughing at them," Bentley told SOHH. "This one is a much different show and it goes a lot deeper."
Bentley says his goal was to make his etiquette lessons more important than winning the cold hard cash. Throughout the season, he schools the contestants on everything from style and grace to etiquette, chivalry and business skills.
"A lot of these guys, they've never put their resume together," Bentley said. "It was really sad when they wrote their objectives. It's going to be funny to some at the same time its like 'Wow.' I really believe that this show is going to be one of the truest windows into America that we have on television."
