WDKX Air Personality Profile - Freddy Colon
Freddy Colon takes you through your workday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM with a blend of R&B, with a little old school mixed in and a touch of hip hop. And everyday at noon, an hour long lunch jam with DJ Whizz, has everyone bopping their heads in their cars while they drive to pick up their takeout. With precision, Freddy works with Whizz to deliver with a segment that could very easily go syndicated.
Something you may be surprised to learn about Freddy (even though most of you do know) is he is a percussionist for a local Latin Jazz Band - The Mambo Kings. I was talking to Freddy a few weeks ago and told him to listen to the words of Anthony David's song "Krooked Kop" and he said, "I usually only listen to the beats - I'm a percussionist."
I met Freddy right before I moved to Phoenix in 2002. I would run into him at WDKX when I would return to Rochester to visit. He was always very quiet and pleasant. I've gotten to know him much better over the last 6 months. He is a dedicated husband and father. He does have a passion for music and is very conscientious about pursuing opportunities to grow musically and financially.
The thing that stands out the most to me about Freddy is his loyalty. He won't even know what I'm talking about, but I have watched Freddy on several occasions display loyalty - with ease. It's in him. It's who he is.

How did you get hired at WDKX?
6 years ago I worked at another station with an amazing radio talent that worked at WDKX for years - Todd Anderson. Todd connected me with Dre on a 3 way conference call. I spoke with Dre he asked, "Are you willing to work?" The answer was yes and here I am!
Why did you want to get into radio?
I'm a Musician first. WDKX allowed me to stay close to music. I LOVE RADIO BABY!!!!
What was the best piece of advice you received from your parent(s)?
Siempre con los ojos abierto (Always keep your eyes open)!
What one thing do you love about Rochester?
I can get anywhere in 15 Minutes
What one thing do you dislike about Rochester?
Crime
Describe your perfect 24 hours?
Spending time at home with my Wife and Kids.
What one thing would you change about yourself?
Nothing - GOD made me this way.
