Ruben Studdard, the silky singing Velvet Teddy Bear, is no longer a bachelor.
The 29-year-old 2003 "American Idol" winner married Surata Zuri McCants at noon Saturday during a 30-minute ceremony at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook.
There was no singing in the sacred ceremony, only vows, prayers, and Scripture with music provided by a string ensemble.
Wearing a white and ivory floor-length Casablanca wedding gown, the bride made her way down the aisle as the ensemble played Trumpet Voluntary.
Meanwhile, the smiling groom, dressed in a custom-made black tuxedo, white vest and white bow tie, whipped out a handkerchief and wiped the perspiration from his forehead.
Like the bride and groom, the wedding party and most of the 300 or so guests were dressed in black and white.
After taking pictures at the church, the couple left in a cream-colored Cadillac Escalade en route to the reception at Rosewood Hall at SoHo Square in Homewood.
Birmingham will be home base for the couple as Studdard moves into the next phase of his career - starring in the 30th anniversary tour of "Ain't Misbehavin,'" and putting together an album that should be released later this year.
