It was the late 90's and I had traveled to Washington, DC with a friend for a long weekend and a concert. After enduring the tail end of a tropical storm, it was time for a short cab ride to Constitution Hall to see Maxwell perform live. Being a big fan of Maxwell's - I was very excited to see him in concert. I had no idea that this man would give such a brilliant performance and that concert still ranks in my top three concerts of all time.
It's been a very long time since an artist has made me stop in my footsteps and feel that deep, in your gut, unh, unh feeling! Until now - And his name is Anthony David!
I had been a fan of his single "Lady" from a previous album, "The Red Clay Chronicles", and also love his new single "Words" featuring a little help from his friend and supporter, India Arie. But, I have become an overnight fan after listening to the entire album on WDKX.com. Anthony David's new project "Acey Duecy" is being released tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24, 2008 and this one will definitely be added to my collection.
Starting with the first cut, you know this one is gonna be the "It" Song This Summer! "Stop Playin" will be the 2008 Sista's Anthem. The song speaks about how a man should treat a woman - "Stop playin' games with her heart, grow up and be a man." "Something About You" talks about how good it can be with the right person. It makes me want to take a road trip in a convertible, with a fine man - complete with the blanket, basket of treats and my iPod. Andre' 3000 makes a guest appearance on "GA Peach".
My personal favorite is the re-release of his single, "Lady". This one is definitely one of those "pull out all the stops, wear your best outfit, put on your favorite fragrance, burn the 'good' candles, put the 1000 count sheets on the bed, don't bother pressing your hair songs (I really got to get out more)!" Listen! You will see!
And no, I don't work for his record company - Soulbird Music, a new venture between Universal Republic Records and the multi-Grammy winning artist India.Arie. Buy this CD - you won't regret it.
