Obama And McCain Join Forces

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama sat next to his Republican opponent John McCain Wednesday morning at the funeral for NBC's Tim Russert in Washington.

The seating arrangement was the result of a special request by the Russert family, according to the AP. Without fanfare, both presidential candidates arrived at the ceremony at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown to pay their respects.

The funeral was private, but a loud speaker broadcast the service to about 100 onlookers standing outside. Bryant Gumbel was among the honorary pallbearers, along with the man who replaced him as co-host of NBC's "Today" show, Matt Lauer, and NBC News anchor Brian Williams.
