Prince - 50 - Our Memories
by Dean

The Dean's List has been a fan of Prince since the release of his first album - 'For You'. I had just started my internship at WDKX Radio. One of my jobs was to maintain the record library (you can tell how long ago that was - now it's all digital). While filing new items away, I ran across a poster of Prince. He had a big, but very well groomed fro, wearing only an unzipped black leather jacket. "It Was On!!" - Without ever hearing a note, my love affair with Prince began. That poster hung on my bedroom wall for a long time.

Some readers of the Dean's List wanted to share there thoughts, memories and feelings about his Royal/Purple Badness.....

"In my senior year of high school, the song, '1999' came out. Man, does that year seem so far away. I served in the military during the 'Purple Rain' era. Ahhh, does that bring back strong feelings and emotions, even today. Lastly, I heard 'Black Sweat' for the 1st time on the WDKX website during a visit from my friend, Dean. I knew he was back, stronger than ever and I felt like that young man listening to '1999'."
Darryl - Phoenix, AZ

"I remember the 1984 Purple Rain Tour stop in Buffalo. It was like magic that night. The Time was the opening act and they killed it! Prince came out and it felt like I was living the movie Purple Rain. It was amazing!"
Paul - Rochester, NY

"Prince is the most amazing artist that I have ever seen and listened to. Simply put, he's a musical genius. Prince's music has inspired me through happy times, sad times and the in between. His music is something you can really feel down to the bone and to see him in concert is the most exciting, breathtaking experience I have ever known. Happy Birthday!!!!" - Eloni - Phoenix, AZ

"My favorite quote.... 'You have to purify yourself in Lake Minnetonka... That ain't Lake Minnetonka!!!' - Classic!!!

and

His Royal Badness brought some of the baddest women in the game!!! Name one that's not - I dare you!!!" - Airren - Charlotte, NC

"I saw him at the Blue Cross Arena back in the day and I remember that it was one of the best concerts ever - Until I saw him in the Carrier Dome, and thought that was the best ever." - Fred - Rochester, NY

"I saw Prince in St. Paul, MN at the beginning of the Musicology tour. The music was so huge - it opened up and swallowed me whole. The funk filled the hall, surrounded everyone and hung over us for over two hours. The horns were on fire, the rhythm was intense and the guitars were pure sensual sound. Prince just sang and danced his heart out in a white suit and a head-wrap. It was all magic and hot, hot music!" - Kathy - Rochester, NY

"For me it all comes down to Prince singing 'The Beautiful Ones' in 'Purple Rain'. What a vocal range, what an outfit, what an ultimatum - Cuz I want you!" - Lee - Rochester, NY

"I loved you then, I love you now, and I'll love you until. Happy Birthday" - The Dean's List - Rochester, NY

Listen to Memory Lane with Andre Marcel' and Tony Boler this Saturday, June 7, 2008, beginning at 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM. I'm sure the fella's won't disappoint us (please play my favorite Prince song, 'Still Waiting') on Prince's Birthday!
