The Dean's List - Speaking Of Prince
by Dean

The Dean's List has found out that this Friday is Prince's 50th Birthday.

Send me you best (or worst) Prince memories and I'll post them on the website.

Send to: thedeanslist1@gmail.com

Two of the Dean's List memories:

1. I was 16 years old and I was just hired by WDKX Radio. A few weeks after I started working, there was a big concert in town. Without giving up my age (you can probably figure it out though), Prince opened for Rick James.

I had the opportunity to see the whole show from backstage. Prince walked by me with a scarf around his neck, a trenchcoat, thigh high, high-heeled boots and a pair of bikini underwear (this is when his Dirty Mind album was out). Needless to say, he stole the show from Rick. I was hooked from that day on!

2. While living in Phoenix, Arizona, Prince came to the Valley to promote his Musicology album (everyone attending got a free copy of the new CD that wasn't available in stores yet).

None of my friends in Phoenix were big Prince fans, so they didn't want to drop $125 for a ticket, so I went by myself. Buying one ticket turned out to be real lucky for me. I was about 6 rows from the stage which was in the round. I was so in the concert that I didn't realize who I was sitting next to until about an hour into the show. The guy next to me was dancing and singing just as hard as I was (which was real hard!). I finally looked at him to give him a high-five when Prince started singing "Let's Go Crazy." It was then I realized that it was Shawn Marion of the Phoenix Suns (now of the Miami "pitiful" Heat).
