Motown's Martha Reeves Robbed
Former Motown great-turned-politician Martha Reeves says thieves broke into her childhood home on Detroit's east side and took off with $1 million worth of uninsured recording equipment.
Among the items stolen Sunday night were speakers, microphones and karaoke machines, according to the Associated Press.
Reeves, 66, said someone kicked in the back door of the house where she was raised, which is now owned by her father. She said "somebody should have called the police while this was happening."
The Detroit City Council member fronted the Motown group Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and had hits in the 1960s with "Heat Wave," "Dancing in the Street," "Nowhere to Run," "I'm Ready for Love," "Jimmy Mack" and "Honey Chile."
