Henry Cox Gets 25 Years In James Slater Case
by Dean

A city man convicted of first-degree robbery in the slaying of Rochester community activist James Slater, but acquitted of second-degree murder for his role in Slater's death, was sentenced in State Supreme Court this morning to 25 years in prison.

Henry J. Cox, 19, was sentenced by Justice Francis A. Affronti .

Slater, 49, was slain at Barons and Bernard streets as he returned from a community meeting Oct. 4. He was robbed of less than $15 in cash, two cell phones and a video iPod.

Cox and Darnell L. Norton, 19, were charged within a week with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery. Norton pleaded guilty April 3 to first-degree robbery, in exchange for a prison term of no more than 20 years, and agreed to testify against Cox, which he did.

On April 14, a State Supreme Court jury found Cox guilty of robbing Slater, but acquitted him of the murder charges.
