OK - The Dean's List has been quiet for the last week, but I'm back.
I'm still recovering from my first Winter back in Rochester. It was a rough one for me since I hadn't seen snow in 5 years. I had to polish my driving skills and buy a few items to keep warm. I survived it in one piece.
During the entire Winter, I couldn't help but pray that the beautiful Summer weather that Rochester is known for would hurry up and come. Unfortunately, I am now dreading the Summer!
The weather the past few weeks has been lovely! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing - AND THE BULLETS ARE FLYING!!!!!
Historically speaking, the crime rate always increases when the weather starts to warm up. 2007 and the beginning of 2008 has already been very violent! Is it just me or are you also bracing yourselves for a very violent summer? I not trying to be a pessimist, but it feels as if the perfect storm is brewing.
As a city resident, I have heard gunshots on more than one occasion over the past couple of weeks. A person was murdered on his front porch not far from where I live a week ago. I'm afraid to leave the house after dark! When I lived here 5 years ago (in the same neighborhood), it wasn't like this.
What can we do to make our neighborhoods safer this summer?
