When the Dean's List heard about the horrible mistake that was made this week in the murder trial of James Slater, at first I cried. I cried because I know the pain the family is going through because justice wasn't served. As a life-long friend of the Slater Family, I haven't even been able to talk to them about the recent events because I don't know what to say!
The more I thought about it, I remembered a blog I wrote shortly after Jimmy was killed. I served as the spokesperson for the family in October and was pretty close to what was happening with the case (search www.wdkx.com under blog, the deans list - and go back to October 5, 2007 for a chronological account).
I re-read what I wrote on October 11, 2007 and wondered - "Was there a third person?":

The Dean's List hinted to all of you shortly before 1:00 AM this morning that progress had been made in the murder case of James Slater. Thank you to the Rochester Police Department for their diligence and hard work in solving this case. A special thank you to Chief David Moore. You made a promise and you kept your word.
Yes, they have arrested three people and announced that the motive was robbery. The police recovered Mr. Slater's IPod and two cell phones. A life taken for a few items that were worth less than $500.
Now it is time for anyone who witnessed the killing of Latasha Shaw to step forward and tell the police what you know. Let's close this case as well.
The Dean's List is tired and needs to take a break. I will be back on Monday.
