"Rochester Radio Broadcaster of the Year" Award
National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters "Pioneer" Award
Inducted into the "New York State Broadcasters hall of Fame" inaugural class.

The list goes on and on.....

Andrew A. Langston, founder, owner and general manager of 103.9 WDKX FM will go down in the history books as a man who changed Black Radio! He had a dream, he worked day and night to achieve it and 34 years later, he has made WDKX Radio one of the top radio stations in the region and has done it without the help or money from a corporate takeover!

Many people that know Mr. Langston view him as a no nonsense business man with a hard edge. I must admit, I've been intimidated by him more than once and I don't intimidate easily. But after being around him more and getting to know him better, I've found that he is just very passionate about what he does and wants the best for his station and everyone associated with it.

In an article from "Broadcasting and Cable", Mr. Langston says, "There's not enough feeling for individuals now," Langston says. "Give them a hand and lift them up and treat them the way you want to be treated. It's old-fashioned, but I'm old-fashioned."

That's the Mr. Langston I've grown to know and appreciate. For as long as I could remember, Mr. Langston has always reached out to help people. From financial assistance, to professional and personal advice, to feeding you - he is always helpful.

African-Americans have been exposed to the game of golf more since Tiger Woods has come on the scene than ever before. Well, my first experience with the game was when the PGA was in town and Mr. Langston closed down the office and took everyone to Locust Hill for the day. He took the time to explain that game, tell us when to talk, where to walk, etc. Mr. Langston has a great love of golf and many people don't know that he is a scratch golfer!

Mr. Langston has passed the torch to his son Andre and doesn't participate much in the day to day operations any more (even though he stays aware of everything that is going on), but every time you enter the WDKX building on East Main Street, you still feel his presence through the hallways. It's very powerful!

I'm very proud that I've had the opportunity to know Mr. Langston and the entire Langston family. They have instilled values, knowledge and ideas in me that I would have never received without them. I thank God that they are part of my life.

I'm proud of you! I love you! But most of all, I admire you!

Keep On Jamming!
