Mavado Arrested

We understands that Deejay Mavado was arrested last night and charged with two counts of shooting with intent and one count of illegal possession of firearm in relation to a shooting incident in July last year.

The deejay will appear in Gun Court today.

"The Major Investigation Task Force arrested him last night. He has been arrested in relation to a shooting incident sometime last year, he has been charged for two counts of shooting with intent, and one count illegal possession of firearm, he is booked to appear in court on Friday," an officer at the Constabulary Communication Network told us early this morning.

According to the police, Mavado turned himself in.

This is not the 'Gangster for Life's first run-in with the law. In September 2006, the police say they received a report that on September 23 of that year Mavado and a group of men had an altercation with another man during an entertainment event Mannings Hill Road. The man was alleged to have been attacked and injured. The police then went to Cassava Piece, and were in the process of arresting Mavado on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm, when they were blocked by residents.

Later, after the deejay turned himself in, Mavado and a policeman at the station clashed resulting in the deejay incurring a second charge of resisting arrest. During the brawl, the deejay almost lost his fingers when three of his fingers were partially severed and subsequently re-attached by a doctor. He had allegedly been pushed through a glass window by the policeman. In January 2007, Mavado was also arrested and charged with possession of ganja.

The deejay has had a tumultuous last couple of weeks as he allegedly threatened a member of the Jamaican media fraternity after a story which he claimed 'dissed' him had been published on the Internet. There was also an allegation that men aligned to Mavado had beaten up a young man affiliated to that website. The matter was subsequently resolved between the young man, Mavado and the Minister of Entertainment during a meeting held last week.
