"Meet The Browns" - The Soundtrack

"Meet The Browns" opens this Friday, March 21. Go see it at the theatre - leave the bootlegs alone!

While some may question Tyler Perry's movie-making style, one thing that can be said for sure is that the soundtracks to his films have been some of the best in recent years.

The cross-dressing playwright turned Hollywood hot shot has a knack for providing a good mix of the old and the young within the casting choices of his films ('Diary of a Mad Black Woman,' 'Madea's Family Reunion' and 'Daddy's Little Girls'). And for each of his five films, a soundtrack consisting of "music from and inspired by the motion picture(s)' has paralleled that thinking.

And it's a great match.

For his latest film, 'Meet the Browns,' which arrives in theaters March 21, Perry continues his association with legendary record company Atlantic Records for a 12-track soundtrack featuring a stellar array of top R&B, soul and gospel artists.

The result equates to aural pleasure.

Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, Kelly Rowland, Brandy, Ledisi, the legendary Chaka Khan and the late Gerald Levert all contribute tracks, along with Kelly Price (who puts her spin on the old Staples Singers classic 'I'll Take You There') and former R&B chart-toppers Case & Coko (for the beautiful David Anthony-penned ballad 'Face to Face').

Elsewhere on the opus, newcomer Wynter Gordon offers up the hip-hop soul-tinged uplifting mid-tempo track 'Unify,' and Tamela Mann (who also stars in the film) proves why she is a gospel powerhouse to be reckoned with a live version of 'Hallelujah,' which was co-written by Perry.

The album's first single is 'People Everyday (Metamorphosis Mix),' performed by Musiq Soulchild, accompanied by John Legend's discovery; the British hip-hop sensation, Estelle.

Executive produced with Warner Music Group bigwig Kevin Liles and JoJo 'J. Bangs' Brimm, Perry may have hit a stride in delivering good music for the grown and sexy audience.
